What is Easter? Why do we have bunnies delivering eggs? Are you ready with your chocolate alternatives?

We love Easter!

It's not as full on as Christmas, it's sweet and gentle and all about new life.  Plus, living on the North Coast of NSW, the Easter holiday is in perfect weather, not hot and sticky like Christmas, but mild and lovely and we can get out and enjoy family time and picnics!

Easter is a Christian festival which celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ, and the Bible says Christ died on the cross on Good Friday and came back to life three days later, on Easter Sunday.

But as with Christmas, Easter is celebrated in many countries all over the world, and certainly not just by Christians.

The story of the Easter Bunny is thought to have become common in the 19th century; Rabbits usually give birth to a big litter of babies (kittens), so they became a symbol of new life.  Legend has it that the Easter bunny lays, decorates and hides eggs as they are also a symbol of new life.  Modern day kids love to go on egg hunts, and these can be so much fun when done with friends and family.

Over the past few decades, as with many other holidays, Easter has become extremely commercialised, and shops are pumping out Easter eggs, chocolate bunnies, Easter clothing for kids, and Hot Cross Buns - just after Christmas!

Here at Rainbows and Clover HQ, our contribution to Easter gifts is a little different; we have bunnies and eggs and chickens, but they can be played with and enjoyed all year round!  Our blue and pink felt bunny garlands are delightful wrapped around a teepee, across a mantle or on a curtain rail.  Our felt rainbow eggs are perfect for developing fine motor skills, sorting, counting, picking and placing, and come complete with their own recycled card egg carton.  Our puppets are so sweet and can also be used as egg covers!  They come in a variety of pairs, including chicken and pig, kangaroo and owl, flamingo and swan, fairy and unicorn & dragon and knight.  Gorgeous gifts for Easter, and perfect chocolate alternatives!  Gift the gift that doesn't stop with the holiday!\

Did you know?  Easter is on different dates each year, between 21 March and 25 April, depending on when there's a full moon in spring.

p.s. The Easter bunny isn't the only egg deliverer ... In Switzerland, Easter eggs are delivered by a cuckoo, and by a fox in parts of Germany.
